⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Balder (Masked Lumen Sage)
Age: He's approximately around 626 years old.
Canon: Bayonetta 2
Canon Point: Chapter IV - The Masked Lumen Sage

Background: The Masked Lumen Sage

Personality: Once known for his humility and sincerity, Balder is a man who perfectly embodies the definition of a Lumen Sage. As an avid believer of Jubileus, the Creator; Balder upholds himself to the strict but benevolent teachings of his fellow sages, and valiantly places himself in harm’s way to defeat beasts that hope to break the tranquility of the Trinity. The Trinity are the three realms that exist within his world, the first is Paradiso the realm of the Angels, Hell being the realm of the Demons, and Purgatorio the realm of the humans. Balder never participated within the Clan Wars between the Lumen Sages and Umbra Witches, and claims to have never killed a witch despite the beliefs of his brethren. He is kind and pure.

A good proportion of Balder’s personality stems from his undying love for his wife Rosa. Despite Rosa being an Umbra Witch, Balder falls in love with her. The hatred that brews between their two clans doomed these star-crossed lovers from the beginning, but Balder refused to let go of his love. Balder is stubborn in this sense. He enjoys Rosa’s company and eventually pleas his life to her as a true sign of devotion. While most of the Lumen Sages viewed the Umbra Witches with disdain, Balder was more curious about them than anything. His curiosity leads him to Rosa who he deems to be his equal in every way. Even though the two of them knew they shouldn’t pursue a relationship, neither of them wanted to stop. If anything, I believe Balder hoped that their love would possibly convince the clans to stop their feud, but unfortunately that didn’t happen.

Balder, in my opinion, is the kind of individual who earnestly believes that love triumphs overall. While he’s not exactly naïve per se, Balder certainly must have a level of naivety if he believed he could take an Umbra Witch as a bride. As according to the clan’s edict, the Lumen Sages and the Umbra Witches were never to meet. They were the Overseers of the World, and thus couldn’t possibly ever unite in the form of marriage in fear of creating a power far greater than Jubileus herself. Surely Balder knew of all of this, but in the end allowed his love for Rosa to cloud better judgment and bring Cereza, his daughter, into this cold and unforgiving world.

Even though Balder can be perceived as naïve, he’s quite a force to reckon with. Balder is skilled and armed to the teeth. There’s almost nothing that the Lumen Sage cannot and will not do in battle. He’s a fierce warrior with a fearless disposition. Balder will stop at nothing to win, and will even sacrifice himself to ensure victory. This truth he shares with his daughter Cereza when it comes down to combat. However, he tends to be the more rational and level-headed of the two. His movements are always well calculated and precise, leaving very little room for his opponents to overpower him. Though, as previously stated, Balder’s slight naivety leaves him prone for manipulation.

Overall, Balder is the strong silent-type with a good heart. Prior to Loptr's influences, Balder was a good man who believed in treating others with compassion rather than hatred. His love for Rosa exalts this sense of purity that Balder possesses. There's no possible way that a Lumen Sage like him would willingly damn himself by marrying an Umbra Witch when knowing the consequences for such actions would be grave. He's the type of person to toss caution to the wind for those he loves, and isn't above sacrificing his happiness for theirs.

Abilities:

Combat wise, Balder's vast abilities rival even that of his daughter Bayonetta (Cereza). As a Lumen Sage, he's capable of manipulating time using the Sage's own version of "Witch Time" which is called "Light Speed". He also possesses unfathomable super human strength, speed, and agility. He has an rather impressive set of skills that make him a foe to be reckoned with. Despite his durability and skill with his enormous double-bladed glaive, Balder is also quite good at forming defensive barriers out of magic.

The Lumen Sages in general have a wide list of skills that partake from the magical arts. While the Umbra Witches tend to use their guns for long range combat, the Sages uses fire manifested from magic to attack their foes. Balder can also create orbs of lightning to scatter his foes with a powerful electrical shock. Hell, the man can even fly with the use of his feathered peacock-like wings. While it has yet to be seen whether or not other Lumen Sages can form these angelic wings as well, it's definitely known that Balder can.

Another skill that should be mention is Balder's uncanny ability to transform into a large white wolf. This ability is called "The Beast Within", and with it he can become a wolf to either attack or out run his foes. He supposedly can switch between human form and wolf form at will much like how Bayonetta can change in-between human and panther form.

Despite all his multiple abilities, Balder's greatest ability lies within his power to summon Paradiso's most powerful Angels to defend him in combat. He's the only person in the entire series who can summon high ranking Angels such as the Auditio, Temperantia, and Sapientia a midst combat. His white peacock feathers act as a conduit much how Bayonetta uses her hair to summon Infernal Demons. He says a brief incantation before summoning them in what I suspect are Latin phrases that praises the Divinity o the Creator. (i.e. "May the Creator, Jubileus, grace you!" and the likes.)

Alignment: Peromei the Arehtei of Hope and Fear. The reason I picked Peromei for Balder is because he pretty much embodies these two emotions throughout the storyline. He's hopes that he can save Rosa if he gets his revenge against Loki. However, despair fills him when he realizes Rosa is forever lost and that his soul will also be lost until Cereza becomes powerful enough to kill him.

⌈ SAMPLE SECTION ⌉

Sample:

A cry of anguish escapes him once she closes her eyes. Desperation entrenched deeply within his soul as he watches Rosa take her final breaths. "Don't go.." Balder could barely recognize his voice now. Gone were the calm placidity he's familiar with, now raw with sorrow. "Please don't go. Rosa! Stay with me." There's no wound graver than the one dealt to him upon this miserable night. News reached him too late to prevent the Angels' attack upon the Umbra Witches. Here within this desolate clock-tower lies the charred bodies of numerous witches who've fallen in battle, and now Rosa is bound to join them.

"Why did you--" His voice cracks as he remembers the cherubic face of Rosa's killer. That boy. He was aiming for Balder, not her. The youth had hoped to slay Balder but Rosa valiantly took the blow herself. Her selfless act left Balder completely stunned. "ROSA!" It's been twenty long years since he last seen Rosa in person. Their clans made it loud and clear that their love would be tarnished by a lifetime of suffering. The Lumen Sages forbade him from ever seeing his wife and child again, and demanded him to forget them.

"Don't you leave me here! Balder pleas as he tries to shake Rosa awake. "There's still so much I want to say to you." He whispers softly as he gently caresses her cheek. While she's covered from head-to-toe in the dark garbs of her Umbran Sisters; Balder can still remember her beautiful smile. Rosa is the most beautiful woman he ever known. She's daring, charming, and ultimately kind. Never in a million years would he have thought that a woman like her would ever marry a man like him. Balder felt blessed when they married. The entire scene was so surreal that poor Balder had to pinch his cheeks a few times to make certain he wasn't dreaming. But now that beautiful dream has become a nightmare.

"I'll avenge you." He mutters once he feels the last of her essence slip away. "I'll avenge you and our daughter both..." Reluctantly letting go of her now limp hand, Balder glances up to find Rosa's killer standing before him with a twisted smile.

"I'll...KILL you!"

Questions: Can I come back~? :3
